Many years ago, my sister (-in-law), Judy, Retired2stamp, invited me to a Stampin' Up Party. I was drawn to the 6X6 recipe card swap our local group was doing and had wanted to scrapbook too. I wasn't really interested in card making because I had witnessed my brother (in-law) Ed fold up a handmade card and put it in his pocket. I almost fainted and I didn't even make the card. But after a few parties, I was hooked and now make more cards than I had ever thought I would. My most recent passions are ATCs, tags & altered art. As you look through my blog I hope you can see how I've grown in my crafting ability!

Sending You...

I just love Jennifer McGuire's Faux Dimension with Stamps & Stencils Technique!  I did this for a birthday card in June but this time I taught it in a technique class at The Craft Shack.  Each month TCS offers classes using different techniques which includes making a 6X6 technique card with written instructions & a sample plus a finished project.  I won't give you detailed instructions here only what I used but you can click on the link above to watch Jennifer's video.

First I stamped the SU Whisper White card front with a sentiment from WPlus9 Sending, Hoping, Wishing (it has matching dies too!) in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink & VersaMark using a Mini Misti.  The Misti is perfect for this technique.  No need to move the stamps, just the card stock.  Then I lightly applied Stormy Sky Distress Ink.  This photo doesn't do the color justice...it's much more vibrant.  I used Tim Holtz's Flourish Stencil with more Stormy Sky Ink for tone on tone & topped it off with ColorBox Frost White Pigment Ink.  The Flourish Stencil is  really neat because it's repeats so even though it isn't wide enough to cover a card front you can move it to line it up!  I added small hearts from the SU 3 Heart Punch.  The card base is SU Pacific Point cardstock. The middle layer is SU Whisper White cut using 2 dies from Spellbinders Pierced Rectangles which is a set of 6.  The outer die will cut 5 1/4 X 4 & the inner die makes a pierced border.  Oh & I even ironed the embossing off!!

This really is not as hard as it looks (or sounds!).  I would recommend giving it a try & maybe use 2 ink colors.

TFL!

Enjoy the Magic of Memories - Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2016 Technique Remix - July

Just put the finishing touches on my tag for Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2016 Technique Remix for July & I'll be getting together with our group to make theirs version tonight.  This month the remix is Watercolor Resist from July 2015 & Layered Words from April 2015.  I really loved doing them both!

Watercolor resist technique:  Since I'm a scrapbooker & take LOTS of photos, I decided on the camera from Tim's Travel Blueprint stamp set.  I used watercolor paper & stamped the camera with black archival ink.  I smushed fired brick & black soot inks on my craft mat & used a water brush to color the image.  After drying with a heat gun, I rubbed a small amount of distress mirco glaze over the camera to create the resist.  It did soak into the paper so I kept putting it on in light layers until my finger glided over the surface. Then I smushed stormy sky ink on my craft mat & with a water brush washed the ink over the entire piece of watercolor paper until it was blended light in some places & dark in others.  Once dry, I tore the the edges & inked them with frayed burlap using a blending tool.

Layered words technique:  It's amazing how many combinations of words you can come up with!  I decided on "enjoy the" from Adventure Words  & "magic of memories" from Holiday Words 2.  I started with a #10 manila tags & inked it with frayed burlap.  I arranged the block words on the tag, turning "of" sideways & taped them down before running the tag through the Big Shot. I don't have good luck with craft knives so I used my Fiskars trimmer to make the cuts above & below the block letters leaving 1/4" on each side.  I distressed  the edges & inked with walnut stain.

After sliding the stamped piece into place, I glued the watercolor paper to the tag.  I stamped faux stitching in black soot across the top & bottom of the water color paper.  I spattered ink over the entire tag by smushing Black Soot onto the craft mat & spritzing with water then dipping a splatter brush into the ink & tapping the brush handle over my hand.  The film strip ribbon was a perfect embellishment & after I slid it under the words so it would show through the words (& you can also see the word "flash" through the filmstrip at the top) I used my tiny attacher to hold it in place.  I had a small piece left over so I just tucked it in at the bottom & attached it the same way.  I used my Tim Holtz Design Ruler to measure for the holes for the hex fasteners.  If you've never used this ruler let me tell you it is AMAZING!!  You can measurer 2 ways & center at the same time plus it has holes so you'll have perfect spacing for brads! Before I cut "enjoy the" from red kraft core cardstock I ran a small piece through Xyron Sticker Maker.  This makes it easier for the small letters to adhere to the tag.  I placed the words on the tag so they are on both surfaces. The tiny camera charm is hung from the letter "E" with a loop pin. The last embellishment is three colors, red, light blue & black, of jute string.

Well hope you enjoyed how I did my version of Tim's July tag!!  TFL!!
