Many years ago, my sister (-in-law), Judy, Retired2stamp, invited me to a Stampin' Up Party. I was drawn to the 6X6 recipe card swap our local group was doing and had wanted to scrapbook too. I wasn't really interested in card making because I had witnessed my brother (in-law) Ed fold up a handmade card and put it in his pocket. I almost fainted and I didn't even make the card. But after a few parties, I was hooked and now make more cards than I had ever thought I would. My most recent passions are ATCs, tags & altered art. As you look through my blog I hope you can see how I've grown in my crafting ability!

Do It Now!

The inspiration for my August tag was a stamp from Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Mini Motivation set. One of the sentiments says "Do It Now Sometimes Later Becomes Never" & I thought something to do with travel would be appropriate since I'm lucky enough to be retired. I used the 4th Oxide Ink technique, Smudge Stamping, I learned in a class taught by Tim himself back in April (lucky again!).

This is the #8 tag I made in Tim's class plus he provided a label with the instructions to put on the back. This is so simple...ink your image with Oxide ink, stamp then use a blending tool to smudge the image. The properties in the ink will separate so the image remains because the dye stains the tag & the pigment sits on the surface so you can move it around. I used stamps from Tim's Stampers Annoymous Classics #1, #3 & #4 sets with peeled paint, spiced marmalade, faded jeans & wilted violet Oxide inks. This little beauty is now in my cute Idea-ology Worn Binder Notebook with the others for future reference.

Now on to what I created on my own...

Using the Oxide Ink technique above, I stamped & smudged: the globe from Schoolhouse Blueprint in broken china; the sentiment from Mini Motivation in fossilized amber; from Warehouse District the plane is stamped in iced spruce & the pointing finger in peeled paint; the grid from Mixed Media in fired brick; from Noble Gents the suitcase in vintage photo & exploration in black soot. Then I filled in with wilted violet & wild honey, After I used a distresser on the edges I added my favorite frayed burlap around the edges. To finish it off I used my sprayer to add droplets of water & dried it with heat tool for a cool effect.

I embellished with an inked clippings sticker; a nailhead brad, a torn & distressed plane ticket from Expedition Ephemera; film strip ribbon added with a tiny attacher; a "wonder" token painted with picket fence & attached with a loop pin. I added game spinners to the clock & popped it up. Last but not least is my fluffy bow that I learned to make from my friend Freddie. I used crinkle ribbon inked in wild honey & broken china.

Thanks for looking & hope you enjoyed my creation!
