Many years ago, my sister (-in-law), Judy, Retired2stamp, invited me to a Stampin' Up Party. I was drawn to the 6X6 recipe card swap our local group was doing and had wanted to scrapbook too. I wasn't really interested in card making because I had witnessed my brother (in-law) Ed fold up a handmade card and put it in his pocket. I almost fainted and I didn't even make the card. But after a few parties, I was hooked and now make more cards than I had ever thought I would. My most recent passions are ATCs, tags & altered art. As you look through my blog I hope you can see how I've grown in my crafting ability!

Butterfly Sympathy

This was my shoebox project for a recent Splitcoaststampers get together in Ilion, NY.  I got the idea from a card I saw on Pinterest by Patsy Collins.  The layout is the same but I used a different stencil, colors, & I stamped a flower instead of using a die cut.  I thought it was a very pretty card & decided on using a sympathy sentiment & verse instead of making a birthday card.  The photo doesn't do it justice either!

To make the background, I used a little trick I saw Jennifer McGuire do by putting Glad Press 'n Seal around a small bread board with the sticky side up.  This will keep the cardstock in place without having to hold it or use adhesive.

The SU Whisper White background was done by blending Cracked Pistachio in the center of Tim Holtz's Latticework Stencil then adding Antique Linen, around the outside of the cracked pistachio & a little in the middle.

Next using my Misti, I stamped a flower from Tim Holtz Wildflowers using Peeled Paint & Dried Marigold Markers & a sentiment from SU Love & Sympathy set with a VersaFine Onyx Black Mini Ink Pad.

The dots are from SU Gorgeous Grunge & randomly stamped in Antique Linen.

I decided to use one of the butterflies from Tim Holtz's Mini Detailed Butterfly Dies cut in SU Whisper White with SU Vellum underneath.  I added a Zva Mini Taupe Pearl on the butterfly.

It was a quick & easy card...hope you give it a try.  TFL!

With Sympathy

I attended a recent event & was in 3 swaps.  This is my card for the sympathy swap & since I needed to make 20 I wanted something easy.  I was inspired by a card I had seen on Pinterest done by lostinpaper.

I used a very pretty background stamp called Leafy Vine by Hero Art & stamped it in Tim Holtz's bundled sage Distress Ink.  It was so easy to mass produce these cards using my Mini Misti!!  Just position once & stamp away.  The best part is if you don't get a good image the 1st time you can re-ink & stamp in the exact same place again!!

I stamped the sentiment from the"With Sympathy" set by JustRite in VersaFine Black Onyx.  VersaFine is my favorite ink because it is so crisp.

Then I centered 2 sizes of Spellbinders Large Rectangle Dies dies & held them in place using removable masking tape & ran them through my Big Shot.

Using Tombow Liquid Glue I placed the OUTER frame on the SU Wild Wasabi CS.  The liquid glue gives you a little time to shift it around if necessary.  Then WITHOUT adhering, I laid the next frame on the card stock.  Next I adhered the solid center using the liquid glue again.

I took the center frame out & put 1/2" foam tape on the back..

I peeled the tape off & put it back in place.  I love the dimension & the pattern stays in tact!

The butterfly is stamped in SU Wisteria Wonder Ink using a stamp from SU Papillon Potpourri then punched from the SU Bitty Butterfly Punch   I used a Micro Glue Dot to adhered it & added a small white pearl.

Easy card but doesn't look it!  TFL!

Heartfelt Sympathy

I'll be going to a shoebox event in a few weeks & I'm participating in a sympathy card swap.  I was looking for ideas on Pinterest & found this beautiful card posted in 2008 by sharmill on Splitcoaststampers.  I fell in love with it & decided to case it.

The stamp set that was used, "Close as a Memory" from Stampin Up! is retired & fortunately I had it. There are a lot of layers on this card & I had to figure out the sizes so I thought I'd include them.   This also features 2nd generation stamping which is inking the image, stamping & without re-inking stamp again.

Basic card:

  • Base card (SU Elegant Eggplant) - 5 1/2" X 8 1/2, scored & folded at 4 1/4"
  • Middle mat (SU Whisper White) - 5 3/8" X 4 1/8
  • Top mat (SU Elegant Eggplant) - 5 1/4" X 4"

Card front (small squares):
  • Bottom mat (SU Whisper White)-1 3/8" square
  • Middle mat (SU Elegant Eggplant)-1 1/4" square
  • Top mat (SU Whisper White )-2 1/4" square
I inked the flower stamp with Elegant Eggplant & Alway Artichoke markers.  Then using a stamp-a-ma-jig, I stamped the image on the 2 1/4" top mat with the point at the top.

 Card front (large square):
  • Bottom mat (SU Whisper White) - 2 1/4" square
  • Middle mat (SU Elegant Eggplant) - 2 1/8" square
  • Top mat (SU Whisper White ) - 2" square
After stamping the 2 1/4" mat & without re-inking, I stamped the flowers on the 2" mat using the stamp-a-ma-jig with the point at the top. Using Versa-fine black ink & the stamp-a-ma-jig, I stamped the sentiment over the flowers.  The 3 layers are put together with liquid glue.

The 2 1/4" flower is cut into four 1 1/8" squares & I discarded the lower left square.  The 3 layers are then put together.

To assemble the card front, I laid the squares on the 5 1/4" X 4" Elegant Eggplant panel.  The outside points touch the edge of the base panel & I left a small reveal between all the squares.  Ones I had them in place, I picked them up individually, applied glue & then put the square back in place.  Add this layer to the middle mat & then add to the card base.

I put a 5 1/4" X 4" Whisper White panel inside the card & stamped a sentiment from this set too.

Hope you try making this card, it really is easy & beautiful.  TLF!
