Many years ago, my sister (-in-law), Judy, Retired2stamp, invited me to a Stampin' Up Party. I was drawn to the 6X6 recipe card swap our local group was doing and had wanted to scrapbook too. I wasn't really interested in card making because I had witnessed my brother (in-law) Ed fold up a handmade card and put it in his pocket. I almost fainted and I didn't even make the card. But after a few parties, I was hooked and now make more cards than I had ever thought I would. My most recent passions are ATCs, tags & altered art. As you look through my blog I hope you can see how I've grown in my crafting ability!

Discover - Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2016 Technique Remix - August

I can't believe it's only the middle of the month & our group was able to get together to make our tags!  The 2 techniques Tim used for his 12 tags of 2016 for August were brayered stain from July 2013 and frameworks from April 2014.  I've only used a brayer a few times so this was my favorite technique of the 2.  I made made 3 different backgrounds (which are below) & they all turned out different.

BRAYERED STAIN:
Following Tim's technique, I used mowed lawn stain, a small brayer#10 manila tagbrushed corduroy ink & walnut stain ink.

The middle tag was my 1st attempt & I didn't think I had enough color.  For the left tag, I think I was to heavy handed because I had a lot of "vertical lines".  The right tag was my final attempt & the one I used for my tag.  I could see some horizontal lines where the brayer ran out of ink but they weren't visible once I added the other elements.

FRAMEWORKS TECHNIQUE:
Again following Tim's technique I used the lattice framework, grungepaper, antique linen paint, walnut stain ink, matte multi-mediumtextile surfaces, paper, mirrored sheets & burlap.  For the silhouette I used cut 2 pieces of ivy from garden greens thinlet set & black cardstock. For embellishments I used words from botanical remnant rub-ons, nailheads, an arrow wrapped in burlap thread, a mirrored starblack soot paint, & crinkle ribbon in mowed lawn & burlap thread.

This is the 1st time I've worked with grungepaper & it was so easy to cut & work with.  Also I've never been a fan of rub-ons but Tim's are the best I've ever used.  They don't come off until you rub them.  Some rub-ons I've used come off so easy & I usually have part of them on every surface except where I want them.

These new techniques were very easy...hardest part about this tag was deciding on what colors & elements to use.  I've probably said it before but I just LOVE making these tags.

TFL!!
